Formspring.me, the new Internet phenomenon, allows users to ask and respond to questions posed by others. These can be posted anonymously or with a user name attached to it. The intent of the site is for questions such as “What is your favorite color?” and “Why did you name your gerbil ‘Minty’?” but recently, many people have begun to take advantage of the mask of anonymity to harass users.

Neutral, agree, disagree, neutral, neutral, neutral. We all know the survey that students were required to take Thursday, June 3. “The survey was planned and organized by the district’s central administration at the direction of the Board of Education,” Assistant Principal Matt Outlaw said. “This data will be used to develop district goals, to determine fiscal priorities and to identify areas of need.” But don’t you think it may be a wee bit difficult to identify “areas of need” when no specific areas are actually identified?

There’s no use crying over spilled milk. But there is some use in chastising the slob who spilled it. Recently while taking the stairs to my sixth hour I was taken aback by an unsightly mess.

“One, 21 guns. Throw up your arms into the sky, you and I…” To some, this is just another song to sing along to. To senior Mike Held, this is the song that filled his car while driving back from his friend’s funeral who committed suicide on June 17, 2009.

We all know what “she said.” And we all know what dirty jokes are, pun or no pun intended. One thing students at North have been oblivious to however, is how their actions, words and even T-shirts are representing themselves and their school.School is a learning environment and student conduct needs to be kept PG-13. Crude jokes, tactless quips and T-shirt slogans may seem all in good fun, but there is nothing funny about putting a stigma on other students who are trying to show school spirit.

morp. school parking lot. tomorrow night. 7:30. be there. At first, Alex Sumnik’s Facebook status was merely an improbable wish. But while I was taking a break from studying for the AP US test with juniors Andrea Matthew and Evan Lock, we saw the status and took it a little too seriously.

The year is 2010. Acclaimed musical geniuses like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground, Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys, and Nirvana have long passed. They catapulted musical theory, arrangement and lyricism into the stratosphere. So why, after all these incredible artists have shown us how to win the minds, hearts and ears of the population, does it seem that modern day music is just a rouse to display monetary dominance? Have we no respect for the creation that is music?

To the teams, a win is a win. To the coaches, a win is a win. To the fans, a win is a win. To most students, a win is a half day. With the victory of North’s decorated and coveted Quiz Bowl team at the state championship on April 24, there have been whispers that the team deserves recognition, and that recognition is a half day. The girls basketball team earned one for the school when they won their state championship, so why doesn’t the Quiz Bowl team get one?

I lead an unhealthy lifestyle. I drink one to four liters of pop daily and consume fast food more than seven times a week. And I love it. Many people in this nation have similar habits. And for some reason there are people who want to do something about it. That’s right, there are people who want to do a “kindness’ for me and my calorie-caked cohorts. Here’s my message for them: Leave me alone. If I want to completely destroy my body with delicious food and drink, so be it. Not your problem.

There sat a 12-pack of Coca-Cola in the fridge. The kind with a cheery Santa Claus on the can. It sat in our refrigerator every Christmas. And every other day of the year, nix the Santa Claus. My dad used to drink about four to eight cans of Coca-Cola every day. And no, it was not Diet Coke, it was Coca-Cola Classic. When he went cold turkey and got rid of the Coke habit, he experienced a caffeine withdrawal, complete with headaches and extreme irritability. He also lost 30 pounds.
